The Story
Jonathan Lo, Owner, North Shore:
I started Illuminations back in 2013 as a way to blend my passion for detail-oriented design, my professional experience as a roofer, and my nimbleness as a competitive athlete.
It makes me so happy to see the joyful expressions of my customers once they see their place lit up. It truly is magical. For me, lighting isn’t just decoration — it’s transformation.
Our teams design, install, and maintain premium lighting displays for residential homes, commercial properties, and special events across Greater Vancouver.
We’ve grown to become a one-stop shop for contractor services beyond light installations– offering hedge trimming, roof cleaning, and other jobs that require boom truck expertise.

What sets Illuminations apart from the growing number of similar businesses?
🎯 Precision
We take pride in ensuring every bulb, clip, inch of string, and viewing angle is considered in the final result. We also recognize that our customers’ properties are expensive assets, so we treat them just like we would treat our own precious things. That level of care is not the norm and we don’t take shortcuts to get the job done faster.
✅ Safety Standards
We only hire licensed professionals who have experience and training in high-risk labor work. Our day-to-day entails climbing up ladders and rooftops during rainstorms, scaling buildings by ropes, lifting 3 stories up in a boom truck, and wrapping ourselves around tall trees. This work is not for the faint of heart.
🎨 Creativity
Because each property is unique, all clients receive a custom quote. We analyze how the lights will be experienced from the occupant’s POV such as driving up their street or peering out their kitchen window. While some companies simply toss lights around a tree, we care about creating displays that exceed expectations.
💡 Transparency
Every energy-efficient LED bulb is placed with attention and detail. LEDs use up to 90% less energy and last six times longer than traditional bulbs– which translates to savings on utility bills. That said, all lights deteriorate with the harsh elements of rain, snow, and temperature changes. For that reason we cannot guarantee that lights from previous seasons will operate the following year. Not only are they out of warranty, they’ve been through a lot!
